Hey Shift Workers,

Cargill meat-packing workers and UFCW 401 members in High River, Alberta have voted 97% in favour of a strike for better wages and working conditions.

The Cargill plant in High River, Alberta had the largest COVID-19 outbreak in North America in the early days of the pandemic. Alberta government officials downplayed the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the plant and workers reported pressure to come in to work despite showing symptoms.

The RCMP launched the first criminal probe into a COVID-19 workplace outbreak in Canada following the death of one worker.

Meanwhile, Cargill had its most profitable year it its 156 year history.

Cargill has until December 6 to reach a deal before workers are in a legal strike position.
